I received my mic and it was very easy to install. The battery is in the mic's battery compartment sealed in plastic so you have to remove that to turn it on.
I installed mine on a T2i. I noticed when I turned the mic on it quickly blinked red and then off, so I wondered if there was a short. That was the only thing I needed to look in the included manual for - it blinks once quickly to let you know it's on and then it stays off so the battery power is only being used for the mic, not for the power light. Clever feature, just remember to turn it off when not in use.
The T2i doesn't need a setting change to use the mic, as soon as it's plugged in it's ready to go.
I took a quick video of myself speaking 360 degrees around the camera then plugged it into my Onkyo TX-SR805 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) via HDMI to watch it. The receiver signified it was receiving a 2.0 PCM signal and I turned the Onkyo to THX 5.1 neural mode. The pans actually worked perfectly in surround sound too, so the stereo imaging must be very accurate.
I am pleased with this mic. It says the limit is 120dB, we'll see how well it handles an F1 race later this summer. This seems like a great way to get stereo audio on your video captures and for the price of the official mic's that are sold for these cameras this is clearly a bargain. 5 stars.

The mic on my T2i really didn't do the job but adding this has made an amazing difference. I only wish there were rechargeable versions of the little battery!
